IT unemployment at a low for the decade - causing headaches for many CIOs

Good news if you’re an IT worker…

Demand for IT staff is at a high point, with 2007 IT worker unemployment at a low 2.1 percent. IT job growth in 2007 was 8.5 percent, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That’s very good news for workers in IT, but means a tougher challenge for CIOs and hiring managers looking to grow their IT staff - supply just isn’t keeping up with demand. One thing that could mean is above-average salary growth over the coming years.

In my personal experience, based mainly on my business dealings in Wisconsin over the last two years, the IT worker shortage is no longer subject to debate. It is very real and affecting businesses quite directly.
