Add an instant messaging contact on your resume/profile page. These are easy to use, popular and for the most part – FREE! Why do this? Some Recruiters work from home and at odd hours of the day and night. How cool would it be for a recruiter to find your resume at 11:00pm and be able to touch base with you on the spot about a job they are trying to fill? Speaking as a recruiter, it’s a wonderful thing that saves SO much time and trouble with leaving messages and wondering if/when a candidate will call back. I’m not sure about AOL Messenger, but I know Yahoo Messenger allows you to send instant messages to cellphones. Now wouldn’t that be convenient? You could be in a boring meeting at work dreaming of how badly you want to work elsewhere and opportunity pops up on your cellphone. You could set up a time to interview, answer a few recruiter questions, or coordinate a phone call and oh, how your mood would change. (smile)
Here are Instant Messenger programs I recommend:
Yahoo Messenger: http://messenger.yahoo.com
AOL Instant Messenger: http://www.aim.com
Windows Live Messenger: http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
